Hello everyone:
I am writing to provide an update regarding the 18th International Congress of Comparative Endocrinology (ICCE18). Please visit the conference website for up-to-date information.
Student Awards
I am pleased to announce that with generous funding provided by the International Federation of Comparative Endocrinological Societies (IFCES) and the North American Society of Comparative Endocrinology (NASCE) we can provide support for a number of students on a competitive basis. Successful applicants will receive reimbursement for the registration fee. Award committee will select students based on the quality of the submitted abstracts. A letter of reference will also be required from the supervisor for each candidate, and should be sent by e-mail to icce18@ucalgary.ca. All students will be eligible for IFCES award and those supported by other sources. However, to be eligible for NASCE student awards, supervisors should be active NASCE members (for more details on NASCE membership, please see http://nasce-snaec.com). Only registered students will be considered for the awards.
Abstract submission
Deadline for early registration and abstract submission is on February 1, 2017. There are 21 sessions that covers a wide area of comparative endocrinology and a list is provided in the conference web site. For most sessions, three speakers were invited by the symposia organizers. The remaining speakers will be selected from the submitted abstracts. Please go to the conference website (icce18.ca) and submit your abstract at your earliest convenience.
Registration and room reservation
After a meeting with the hotel management recently, we came up with an agreement to keep the blocked rooms until early registration deadline of February 1st. As a compromise, we had to reduce the number of rooms blocked from 350 to 240 standard rooms in addition to 40 double student rooms based on number of registrants in the previous ICCE meetings. As indicated before, we have to guarantee the room numbers, and since hotel’s policy allows cancellation with no penalty, we require everyone to register in the conference before they can keep their room reservation at Chateau Lake Louise. If you have not already done so, please proceed with room reservation and conference registration as soon as possible to take advantage of low negotiated rates which are available to registered delegates only. Currently,152 hotel room have been reserved by full delegates and 26 rooms by 50 students. At this point 88 regular rooms are available in Chateau Lake Louise for the period of June 4-9, 2017 which is the exact duration of the congress in addition to student rooms (available space for 30 more students). Chateau Lake Louise is sold out for period before June 4th and after June 9th, and if you are planning to stay outside the conference period, there are good options available in Banff at the present time.
Travel and car rental
We have negotiated special rates for car rentals for the ICCE18 delegates. A good option would be to rent a car or share a car rental with others if at all possible because of free self-parking for all ICCE delegates staying at Chateau Lake Louise. Maritime Travel is the University of Calgary’s preferred travel management company. As 18th ICCE delegate, you can receive discount for car rental, shuttle service and air travel. To make reservations for rental cars, shuttle services, airline tickets and optional tours, please go to the Maritime Travel special site for the ICCE18 delegates (https://www.maritimetravel.ca/18icce). More information on ground transportation and shuttle services may also be available from the Calgary International airport web site (http://www.yyc.com).
It is important to note that visitors need a valid identification such as a passport or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada. Depending on the country of origin, there may be a need to apply for a valid visitor visa, or other form of authorization. Please check visa requirements for travel to Canada at http://www.yyc.com
Please do not hesitate to contact the LOC if you have any questions and require additional information.
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the local organizing committee and wish you a Happy holiday and a wonderful 2017.
All the best
Hamid Habibi
